New signing James Milner has been speaking about his hopes of playing regularly in central midfield, telling The Independent: “I feel here if I play well, I’ll keep the shirt. It’s down to me. That role of filling in, more when other people aren’t available, playing all over the field; I don’t think it lets you show your best football.”
Midfielder Lucas Leiva has tipped compatriot and new recruit Roberto Firmino to prove a top signing. “Hopefully he will be the new Suarez because that would be great for the club,” commented the Brazilian in quotes published by the Liverpool ECHO. “But it is not fair to put that pressure on him now. I think he has got all the attributes to be a great player for the club, for sure.”
Hot on the heels of making his LA Galaxy bow in a International Champions Cup win over Club America over the weekend, Steven Gerrard has been named in the MLS All-Star team to face Tottenham Hotspur on July 29. Liverpool have added another pre-season friendly to their summer schedule. The Merseysiders will take on Swindon Town in a pre-season friendly at the County Ground on Sunday August 2 at 4pm BST. With the game taking place the day after a match against HJK Helsinki in Finland, it will be interesting to see which players feature.
Promising Portuguese midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira has made a quicker-than-expected recovery from a broken leg and featured in the 4-0 friendly win over a Thai All Star X1 on Tuesday. The ex-Sporting Lisbon starlet suffered the injury on April 14 whilst playing on loan for Brighton & Hove Albion.
Liverpool Ladies continued their recent upturn in fortunes with an impressive 3-1 away victory over Arsenal on Sunday evening. England World Cup star Fara Williams was amongst the goal scorers for the female Reds, alongside Becky Easton and Asisat Oshoala.

Liverpool U18s began their mini tour of Ireland with a 2-0 win over Cork City on Saturday night. The match saw debuts for former Barcelona winger Bobby Adekanye and fellow new signing Elijah Dixon-Bonner, who joined from Arsenal recently. Toni Gomes and Yan Dhanda got the goals.
