Liverpool FC have confirmed they are looking into issues of police brutality and overzealous stewarding towards their supporters at Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Sevilla in Spain. A club statement issued on Wednesday read: “Following detailed and troubling accounts given by Liverpool supporters attending the match against Sevilla last night, the club is seeking to establish the facts regarding their treatment at the hands of the host stewards and local police force. The safety and security of our supporters is our paramount concern and we intend to gather all the relevant information before responding further.”
Iconic ex-skipper and current U18s boss Steven Gerrard has been named in a UEFA ‘team of the century’ X1. The line-up, based on the number of Team of the Year selections won, features only one other player who hasn’t represented either Real Madrid or Barcelona; Philipp Lahm. Liverpool Legends are set to play Bayern Munich at Anfield on Saturday March 24, 2018. The game is the latest in a series of fixtures raising funds for the Liverpool FC Foundation and tickets are priced at £20 for adults, £5 for juniors and £15 for over 65s. Amongst the former Reds set to feature are Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, Dirk Kuyt, Jamie Carragher, Luis Garcia, Robbie Fowler and Daniel Agger. Tickets can be purchased now.
Head of Physiotherapy Andy Renshaw has left the club after eight years spent working for both the Academy and the first team. The move is believed to be the latest part of the continued restructuring that has taken place in the sports science department since manager Jürgen Klopp took over in the dugout.
International rugby league will return to Anfield on Saturday, November 3 2018 when England host New Zealand in the second of a three-match test series. Liverpool U23s extended their lead at the top of Premier League 2 and earned local bragging rights with a commanding 4-0 victory over Everton at Prenton Park on Saturday evening. Two goals in each half did the damage for Neil Critchley’s team – Herbie Kane and Corey Whelan netting in the first and Rhian Brewster and Yan Dhanda in the second. Several of the players were in action again on Tuesday night when, unlike their senior counterparts, Liverpool U19s secured their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League with a match to spare. Liam Millar, who scored inside 30 seconds, Herbie Kane, Rhian Brewster and Bobby Adekanye were the players on target in another comfortable 4-0 win, this time away to Sevilla. The youngsters have been drawn away to either Carlisle United or Hartlepool United in the FA Youth Cup third round. No date has yet been arranged for the tie with Carlisle set to host Hartlepool at Brunton Park in round two on November 28.
Liverpool Ladies also enjoyed a four-goal winning margin this past week as they cruised to a 5-1 victory against Aston Villa Ladies in the Continental Tyres Cup on Wednesday night. The victory, which means Scott Rogers’ charges have secured their place in the quarter-finals of the competition, featured five different goal scorers.
