Speaking to German news outlet AZ, former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has tipped to the Reds to sign Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara – claiming a move to Anfield would ‘make sense‘ and that it is the ‘most likely‘ option.

Thiago, starting 20 Bundesliga matches for Bayern this campaign, has recently been heavily touted to secure a move to Liverpool amid serious reported interest – with Spanish publication Sport claiming that the 29-year-old was ‘very close‘ to a deal earlier this month.

Indeed, the Spain international appears to be on manager Jurgen Klopp’s radar as we scour the market for additions who can bolster our squad – especially as Liverpool’s first ever Premier League title defence looms in 2020/2021.

Described as ‘world class‘, the midfield technician could could bring some much needed flair through the middle – with ex-Red Hamann claiming that we have enough ‘workhorses‘ like Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Naby Keita.

Going on to claim that Liverpool wish to keep the price down, Hamann also predicts that we are the ‘most likely option’ for Thiago as he seeks the last big money move of his career.

“A transfer would make sense in my eyes,” claimed Hamann to AZ.

“Because Jürgen Klopp has more workhorses in his midfield with Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Naby Keita and could use a filigree technician like Thiago well,”

“On the other hand, he had a Bavaria contract ready for signature. I would be surprised if he didn’t have a lot to offer. Otherwise you won’t reject it.

“The bottom line is still the most likely option for me to go to Liverpool.”

Approaching 30-years-old, Thiago reportedly wants to secure a blockbuster switch to the Premier League before the clock ticks out on an impressive career – and his ability is certainly backed up by WhoScored.

The midfielder, whilst finding a noteworthy 90.5% of his passes to teammates, also averages more completed dribbles than the vast majority of our squad – including star attackers such as Sadio Mane.

Bearing this in mind, a swoop for the ex-Barcelona star could certainly be ideal to add that extra bit of dynamism in the middle of the park.
