Speaking to Radio Musica Television via Europa Calcio, ex-Liverpool keeper Alex Manninger has tipped the Reds to sign Kalidou Koulibaly this summer as Virgil van Dijk’s perfect centre back partner – going on to claim they could become the strongest defensive duo in Europe.

Manninger, who briefly plied his trade on Merseyside, arriving on a one-year deal back in July 2016 to provide cover for the likes of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, has now gone on to have his say over our alleged pursuit of Koulibaly – claiming the Senegalese stalwart would thrive under Jurgen Klopp.

Could Liverpool sign Koulibaly?

The 29-year-old, who has impressed for Napoli over the last few seasons, is debatably one of the most sought-after defensive assets in world football who is being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool have been named among the sides keeping tabs on his situation recently, and Manninger believes that we should swoop for Koulibaly regardless of his £90 million asking price.

Speaking to Radio Musica Television, on a programme called ‘Taca La Marca‘, Manninger waxed lyrical over how great a signing the Napoli defender would be for us.

Describing him as an ‘extra weapon‘ for the Reds to go on and dominate English football, he could also serve as a strong partner to Van Dijk, especially considering he could also improve ‘exponentially‘ according to Manninger.

Indeed, while our former shot stopper has tipped Klopp and co to make a move, it still remains to be seen whether we will in fact meet Napoli’s demands.
