LFC are planning a global sign of unity at the Hillsborough memorial service on April 15, writes RafaTheGaffer…

Liverpool Football Club have requested scarves from any club from any sport for a pitch commemoration of the Hillsborough disaster during the 25th Anniversary service at Anfield on the 15th April.

The club’s official website has reported that our eternal friends at Borussia Monchengladbach have already donated over 300 scarves so far, and more are coming in.

After reading this I had to write something about the generosity shown by German fans towards the Hillsborough disaster because it’s always been fantastic and humbling.

Liverpool and Monchengladbach have a long history of friendship between supporters, with each club organising an annual visit to a game of the other side. The friendship started when we played them in the UEFA Cup Final in 1973, and was enhanced at the 1977 European Cup Final.

Monchengladbach aren’t the only club in Germany that show support for the Hillsborough families either. Borussia Dortmund sing YNWA at their games and regularly hold up banners in support of the fight for justice.

With the latest inquests into the 96 deaths having started, this years 25th anniversary memorial service is likely to be the most emotional yet.

To everyone who continues to support the fight for justice, on behalf of myself and all at Vital Liverpool, I’d like to say thank you.
