Liverpool started their last minute dealings early this year with yesterday’s capture of young German striker Samed Yesil and the departure on loan of Andy Carroll.
There has also been plenty of speculation surrounding the futures of Daniel Agger, Charlie Adam, Jay Spearing and Danny Wilson, to name but four.
As with all deadline days there are sure to be a number of surprises with deals going down to the wire and often beyond.
Come back to this page regularly as we roundup any confirmed moves relating to Liverpool FC below…
Combative midfielder Jay Spearing has joined Bolton Wanderers on a six month loan deal. The 23-year-old has spent his whole career at Anfield up to this point but been mainly used as a backup. Spearing previously had a brief loan spell at Leicester City in 2010.
Scottish midfielder Charlie Adam has joined Stoke City on a four year contract for a fee of around £4-5m. The 25-year-old leaves Liverpool only one year after signing from Blackpool for £8m.
Reserve striker Nathan Eccleston has joined Blackpool on a one-year deal. There’s an option for him to stay on at the Tangerines for a further year should the switch be a success. Despite featuring extensively during pre-season Eccleston has been allowed to depart for a nominal fee.
Quite a depressing day from a Liverpool perspective really. After much talk of more new players coming in none have. The player we seemingly came closest to signing was Clint Dempsey but the club supposedly refused to pay more than £4m so he joined Tottenham Hotspur instead for around £6m. Elsewhere an enquiry for Daniel Sturridge on loan was quickly rebuffed by Chelsea. To compound the matter several solid squad players have departed (although expectedly). We certainly have enough players left in the midfield area to cope without Adam and Spearing but the lack of a replacement for Carroll is a massive concern. It leaves us with only two senior strikers on the books in Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini and for a team already struggling to find the net consistently that would appear negligent squad management.
