Liverpool U21 score seven against League One side

|

Liverpool U21’s defeated Fleetwood Town 7-4 in a crazy friendly that took place behind closed doors, with Layton Stewart scoring four goals to continue his fine form.

The Reds were 7-1 up with not long to go in the game, but three late Fleetwood goals made the score line look slightly more respectable.

Stewart has been in superb form this season and was rewarded a first-team debut against Derby County in the Carabao Cup earlier in the month.

The striker’s comeback is even more remarkable given the fact the youngster spent 13 months out injured due to a horror ACL injury, but hard-work and desire has allowed him to get his career back on track.

Goals have followed Stewart everywhere he has gone so far in the early years of his career, scoring 27 in 25 games for the under-18s then 11 in 25 for the under-21s.

Youth side manager, Barry Lewtas, spoke on Stewart’s ability to Liverpool FC’s Official Site, saying: “Layton is getting sharper and sharper and he’s full of confidence after making his first-team debut.”

“Like any boy who comes through the journey, he’s had his setbacks, but he’s worked ever so hard and he’s scored goals at Premier League 2 level and been excellent for us.”

The 20-year-old is certainly an exciting player to keep an eye on over the next couple of years as Jurgen Klopp certainly has faith in the ability and potential of the striker.
