Versatile defender Andre Wisdom is set for a second successive season-long loan move, this time to West Bromwich Albion…

Liverpool youngster Andre Wisdom has been left out of the club’s summer tour of the USA so he can complete a temporary switch to West Bromwich Albion.

The 21-year-old had been named in the club’s original 33-man touring party, which departed for Boston on Sunday, but instead will head to the Hawthorns to ratify the move.

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-1 friendly victory over Preston North End, in which Wisdom featured for 64 minutes, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers revealed: “Andre is going to go on loan to West Brom…

“West Brom have been a rising club for the last few years in the Premier League. He’ll go there and it will be another chance for his education and development to continue.

“He’ll join up with them sooner rather than later and spend the season there on loan. That will be another step for him in his development, playing regularly in the Premier League.”

Wisdom spent last season with Championship side Derby County, making 38 appearances as the Rams reached the play-off final.

Signed from Bradford City in 2008, the defender made a goal-scoring debut for Liverpool’s first team during the 2012-13 campaign (against Young Boys Bern in the Europa League).

In total, the England U21 international has featured 22 times for the Merseysiders, including 14 times in the Premier League.

A former Reserve team captain under Kenny Dalglish, Wisdom can play in central defence or at right-back.

Vital Verdict
Liverpool have too many defenders currently on their books and with new players, such as Southampton’s Dejan Lovren expected to arrive, Wisdom could be the first of many existing personnel to depart in the coming weeks. The youngster did brilliantly for Derby last season but it remains difficult to see many first team opportunities at Anfield in the short-term, particularly after the emergence of Jon Flanagan. He certainly has ability though and hopefully regular game time at West Brom will prove he can cut it in the top flight.
