Liverpool World Cup Player Ratings (Matchday Two)

|

Another matchday at the Qatar World Cup has concluded, with five of the seven Liverpool players at the tournament featuring.

Here is how we think each Red performed in matchday two:

Virgil Van Dijk (Netherlands)- 7/10 (LFC Player of the Week)

Virgil Van Dijk captained the Netherlands in their 1-1 draw against Ecuador in matchday two, and although his side couldn’t keep a clean sheet the number four put in a solid display both defensively and on the ball.

Jordan Henderson (England)- 6/10

The Liverpool captain replaced wonderkid Jude Bellingham in the 69th minute of England’s 0-0 draw against USA and was given the task of dictating the latter stages of the game and help to make sure that USA didn’t sneak a late winner in that game. Since he didn’t get much time to settle into the game, I thought Henderson put in a fairly average display in a very dull game.

Ibou Konate (France)- 7/10

The defender replaced Raphael Varane in the 75th minute of France’s 2-1 victory against Denmark. The 23-year-old came on the pitch with the score level and managed to help keep the defense tight whilst France pushed forward and got their winning goal through Kylian Mbappe.

Alisson Becker (Brazil)- 7/10

The Liverpool goalkeeper kept his second clean sheet in as many games at the tournament as Brazil defeated Switzerland 1-0. Remarkably, Alisson is yet to face a single shot on target in 180 minutes of football at the World Cup so far. The keeper is certainly becoming a favourite for the golden glove award, both to the credit of himself and the incredible defense in front of him.

Darwin Nunez (Uruguay)- 5/10

Another below-par performance from the Liverpool striker, with Uruguay being just one of three nations still yet to score a single goal in the World Cup so far along with Mexico and Tunisia. In fairness to Nunez, supplying the strikers appears to be a real issue for this Uruguay side but in times like this work-rate isn’t enough unfortunately.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (England)- N/A

The full back was an unused substitute in England’s 0-0 draw with the USA.

Fabinho (Brazil)- N/A

The midfielder was an unused substitute in Brazil’s 1-0 victory against Switzerland.
