Luis Suarez left in tears as Uruguay slip out of the World Cup

|

Luis Suarez and Darwin Nunez have both been knocked out of the World Cup, finishing third in Group H.

Uruguay defeated Ghana 2-0 but crashed out of the tournament due to goals scored, as South Korea pulled off another iconic World Cup comeback to defeat Portugal 2-1.

Suarez created the first goal after his shot deflected into the path of Giorgian de Arrascaeta, who’s two goals weren’t quite enough to send the South Americans through.

The narrative of Luis Suarez cheating back in the Quarter Finals of the 2010 World Cup, which saw Uruguay controversially knock Ghana out, was heavily noted in the buildup and throughout the game.

But it was in fact the former Liverpool striker who was left in tears at the final whistle.

The Uruguayan has had a very controversial past at the World Cup, first of all punching the ball off the line to knock Ghana out in 2010 before getting sent off for biting Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder at the 2014 World Cup.

Both Suarez and Nunez were substituted with 25 minutes to go, with the Uurguay boss seemingly thinking they had done the job.

Instead, La Celeste was left needing a goal in the last two minutes with just Edinson Cavani on the pitch who in fairness should’ve been awarded a penalty.

Nunez becomes the first Liverpool player to be knocked out of the competition and will now link up with his Liverpool teammates in Dubai.
