Following today’s news that Liverpool have agreed a fee for the transfer of Mascherano to Barcelona, it appears that Roy Hodgson has moved quickly to replace him and add strength to the squad.
It is rumoured that Paul Konchesky is to have a medical at Anfield this weekend to seal a £4m move from Fulham.
News has also broken tonight that Mascherano is likely to be replaced by Porto’s Portugal international Raul Meireles. The fee for this move is likely to be around £10m.
Personally, I am more than a little bit miffed that Konchesky is the best left back we can afford or attract, but at £4m he may well be a decent addition to the squad.
The signing of Meireles is a far more attractive proposition. For those of you from a certain era, he is very much in the David Platt mould and he was arguably Portugal’s best player at this years World Cup. He likes to get forward and will score many more goals than Mascherano.
What do you feel about these possible signings? Has Roy got it right?
