Liverpool received a warm welcome on their return to Anfield on Saturday evening after booking their place in the Champions League semi-finals at Manchester City on Tuesday night.
Surprisingly, given the intensity of that encounter and the mid-table nature of their opposition, manager Jürgen Klopp fielded arguably his strongest available starting X1, featuring only the one change from the Etihad.
That came in midfield, where captain Jordan Henderson returned from his European suspension, meaning the dynamic front three of Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all started.
What’s more the trio were all on target as the Reds took their collective goal tally for the season up to 121 in all competitions.
The encounter did end in slightly negative fashion for the hosts however with Dejan Lovren substituted because of injury. Given the continued absence of fellow defenders Joël Matip and Joe Gomez, Klopp will be hopeful the issue isn’t serious.
