It looks increasingly likely that Reds striker Fernando Morientes will leave Liverpool this summer after admitting his future at the club is in serious doubt.

Since his arrival from Real Madrid in a £6 million deal 18 month’s ago,
the Spanish hitman has struggled with injuries and adapting to the pace of the English game.

With Rafa keen to add some much needed firepower this summer, Nando realises he is in line for the chop.

‘People are saying that Liverpool are going to sign forwards and Benitez does not count on me any more,’ he said.

‘I’ve been at Liverpool a year-and-a-half, and with injuries and other things I’ve never felt right.

‘I will have to speak to the manager to see if he wants me. But I cannot stay if I don’t play, if I do not feel useful. That’s the reason I left Madrid.’

Despite a return of just 12 goals in 60 games for the Reds, Morientes feels he would have contributed more to the scoring charts had he had more first team opportunities.

He added: ‘If I’d have played more, if I’d have scored 15 or 20 more goals, I’d have been able to expect something better, but I haven’t played well.’

More games? I would have thought 60 appearances in 18 month’s was more then enough to show what you can do.

I thought he would be a very good signing when we first signed him but his performnces for the most part have been poor. I won’t be sorry to see him offloaded.
