According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool target Adama Traore will not be allowed to join the Reds this summer for less than £70 million – with this news potentially being a blessing in disguise should Fenway Sports Group be turned away by the asking price.
Traore, who has stunned pundits and fans alike with a string of impressive performances this campaign, most notably scoring a brace against the Reds’ title rivals Man City back in October, is now reportedly attracting interest from Jurgen Klopp as he searches for potential options should Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah opt for moves away from Merseyside.
Out of the huge names being linked with our league leaders, Traore is one of a few that could make plenty of headlines – with in-demand Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho also having been mentioned despite FSG becoming turned off by his £120 million asking price.
Unlike Sancho, the Wolves winger would arrive at Anfield for £50 million less – but does that mean Liverpool should pursue the dynamic wide player? The answer could be a resounding no.
According to WhoScored, while Traore has completed more dribbles than any Reds player this season, he has also failed to match Salah and Mane’s numbers in terms of goals and assists – with the Spaniard scoring just four league goals and assisting seven others.
Should Liverpool sign Adama Traore?
As well as this, the 24-year-old has managed fewer shots per game and key passes on average than the key duo – putting into question what he could actually bring to the table in terms of attacking threat.
Although Traore has taken the Premier League by storm this season, by his own admission, the winger’s end product debatably needs to improve before Liverpool even consider a huge £70 million bid – especially taking into account the fact we’ll need to find players who can replicate the goalscoring exploits of Salah and Mane if they decide to exit Merseyside.
