The Reds have relied heavily this season on the efforts and performances of some of the club’s youngsters and academy graduates who have had to fill the boots of the first-team players who are currently sidelined due to injury.

That includes young Irish goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher, who started against Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday, helping the Reds to a 1-0 victory over the Dutch side and securing Champions League qualification as group winners.

His performance was met with praise from the Liverpool squad as well as manager Jurgen Klopp, who ran straight over to the 22-year-old to give him a signature Klopp hug at full time. Rightly so, as the performance he produced was experienced and mature, as if he’d been performing at this level for years and I think that is something that could see him feature more as the club’s number two in Alisson’s absence.

Throughout the game against Ajax, Kelleher never looked out of place nor did he seem nervous or worried throughout the game – he showed great maturity and a steady head throughout the game and it is that confidence that has surprised me and most likely many other Liverpool fans.

Who will start against Wolves?

I have no doubt that he will start ahead of Adrian on Sunday against Wolves and Kelleher must now really use this chance to cement his place in the Liverpool squad.

He has been handed the opportunity of a lifetime here and as of yet has made a great start with it thanks to his performance in Europe at the start of the week. Now the key thing is to continue that and show the Anfield faithful this weekend that he is certainly a player that both Klopp and the fans will need to keep their eye on.

What do you think Liverpool fans, did Caoimhín Kelleher impress you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
