Rafa Benitez has played down any fears over Steven Gerrard’s injury and insisted he will be fit for the start of the season.
The Red’s captain returned home for treatment at Melwood after picking up a groin injury at the team’s Swiss training camp last Wednesday .
‘Steven has a groin problem, it’s not serious but he cannot train and he wouldn’t be available for this game so we decided to send him back to Melwood Benitez told the club’s official site.
‘He should be okay in about a week. It’s not serious but there’s no sense to keep him here being unable to train or play.’
