Having been linked with a move for 21-year-old Ajax defender Perr Schuurs over the past month, it has been reported that the Reds are lining up a £27 million bid for the Dutchman.

Being dubbed as the “new Matthijs De Ligt” by Corriere dello Sport, the young defender has recently come through the ranks at Ajax, cementing his place in the first-team XI and impressing with his performances.

This season Schuurs has featured 8 times in the Eredivisie, averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, and 1.9 clearances, as well as winning 1.3 aerial duels per game. The stats clearly show that Schuurs is a great talent for Ajax and the Netherlands and it would make sense for the Reds to make a move for him this winter.

I really like Schuurs, he impressed me when the Reds played Ajax last month – he looks very direct and strong in the tackle, as well as looking really comfortable on the ball which is something that fits the bill in terms of this Liverpool side and what they look for in a central defender.

Schuurs has averaged a 90.9% pass success rate in the league clearly highlighting his ability and comfortability with the ball at his feet and if the Reds were to make a move for the 21-year-old he would have some of the best to learn from, especially with fellow countryman Virgil van Dijk.

If the reports are true and the club is lining up a £27 million move for the defender then I have no qualms over the deal and will fully support the transfer – and in all honesty, it would be a signing I would be excited to see the club make.
