It was just a few weeks ago when Liverpool found themselves linked with a move for former Golden Boy winner and Portuguese starlet Renato Sanches – who has somewhat resurrected his career since joining French club LOSC Lille from Bayern Munich.

The 23-year-old has had a fine start to life with Lille, helping them to third place in Ligue 1 and just one point off of top spot. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has previously stated on Twitter that were one of many interested in the midfielder.

Recent revelations have shown that on his Here We Go podcast, Romano reckons that Sanches could be Liverpool’s replacement for the likely outgoing Georginio Wijnaldum, who is likely to join Spanish side Barcelona with manager Ronald Koeman confident of signing the Dutchman in the summer.

It is very unlikely for a move to materialise this month with Liverpool likely saving for some big business in the summer after Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he was unsure whether the club will make a January signing – this could mean we see the Portuguese midfielder make his way to Anfield this summer and it is definitely a move I wouldn’t turn my nose up at.

Sanches already has links with Reds forward Diogo Jota with the pair both being Portuguese, as well as playing alongside Thiago during their time at Bayern Munich together. Not only that but Klopp has proven himself to be a manager that many of the world’s best players want to work under and I can’t see that being any different with Sanches.

With the likelihood of Wijnaldum leaving the club growing each week and his contract running out in the summer with no sign of renewal, the club will need to act swiftly to replace the big whole that he will leave – and Sanches could be the perfect fit.
