Report: Captain voices his support for Liverpool to re-sign ‘good friend’ following poor season

|

Jordan Henderson is open to the idea of Philippe Coutinho one day returning to Liverpool two years after the Brazilian international left the club for FC Barcelona.

Speaking to Sport via The Express, the Merseyside captain admitted that he would like to see his former teammate return to Anfield with Coutinho suffering a poor time since his move to La Liga, with the 27-year-old currently out on loan at Bayern Munich which has so far been unproductive at best as stats from Transfermarkt show.

There were murmurs that last summer that Coutinho could return to Liverpool after a disappointing debut season with Barcelona, and Henderson is seemingly open to the idea of the Brazilian trickster one day coming back to the Premier League giants should Jurgen Klopp approach him.

Should Liverpool re-sign Philippe Coutinho?

Yes

No

The Liverpool club captain said: “Phil is a good friend of mine. I think he is an exceptional footballer. He has everything. He has a great attitude and he loves football. So, of course, for me, it would always be welcome, but it is not up to me. It is probably best to ask the manager that. The boys loved him, so if you ask any of them, I’m sure they’ll say they would love to have him back.”

Coutinho’s career since leaving Liverpool in 2017 has been disastrous, to say the least, with the former Inter Milan star failing to live up to the hype and quality of representing Barcelona week-in week-out, and although the Brazilian returning to Anfield would be a fitting footballing story, the club seem eager to move past him and focus on building success with what they currently have.

The Reds have come leaps and bounds since the sale of Coutinho, and although the playmaker remains a fan favourite on Merseyside, Liverpool themselves know that they should be looking towards the future without their former no. 10.
