David Ornstein has reported that Liverpool have stepped up their efforts to sign Norwich City star Todd Cantwell following a breakout season with the Canaries.

Writing in his weekly column for The Athletic, Ornstein reports that the Reds have ‘intensified their interest’ for the England U-21 international with the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham also keen in signing Cantwell in the summer transfer window, with Norwich seeking around £30m for their attacking star.

With six goals and two assists in 26 Premier League games this season as stats from Transfermarkt, Cantwell has emerged this year as one of the league’s most intriguing youngsters after a string of impressive performances against some of the division’s best clubs, and the lure of playing for Liverpool could make the Reds favourites to sign the 21-year-old winger.

Would you take Todd Cantwell in the summer transfer window?

Yes

No

With Jurgen Klopp forming a great reputation over the past few years in taking good players and elevating them even further in quality, Cantwell could see Liverpool as a logical next step in his promising career, especially with Norwich currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and looking the favourites to face the drop back down the Championship.

And Cantwell could be a player that suits Klopp’s system, with positional stats from Transfermarkt showing that the Dereham-born attacker can play both out on the left-wing as well as a central midfielder, and it is this versatility that could appeal to the German manager in making the 21-year-old prospect another quality squad player for Liverpool.

The England youth international has certainly made his presence known in the Premier League this season, and with Norwich facing the drop, Liverpool could be making a smart by move by readying themselves to pounce on Cantwell in the summer transfer window.
