Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri will leave England in the summer.

The Switzerland international could have left the club to move to Roma on loan in January but the deal was blocked by the Reds as we believed he was a crucial part of manager Jurgen Klopp’s side. Despite this, he has not featured in a single game since the transfer window closed.

Shaqiri has suffered various calf injuries since his £13m move from Stoke City in 2018 and has only scored once in 10 appearances for the Reds this season. The Spanish outfit Sevilla are now preparing to place a formal bid for the Swiss midfielder in the summer, but we are reportedly wanting £28m for his services.

Having played just 256 minutes of competitive action during the current campaign, it’s looking increasingly likely that Shaqiri could be shown the door in the summer. Darren Bent told Football Insider that cannot see him moving to another Premier League side.

“Whoever takes him, for some reason I can only see him going abroad now”, he said”.  “I can’t see him staying in the English Premier League any more.

“Who knows, but somewhere decent of course. The one thing we can say about him, he has got ability.”

Shaqiri has scored just seven goals and provided five assists in 40 appearances for us in total and has been unlucky not to play more games than he has, as Klopp acknowledged and apologised for.

The 80-cap international has proved that he is more than capable of playing in England and Italy. Although he hasn’t had a taste of Spanish football, Shaqiri has the ability to flourish there.

It would be a fantastic deal for both parties if a permanent deal for that price could be negotiated. On the contrary, it would be a great shame to see him leave.
