Spanish club Sevilla are planning to make a formal bid for Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri when the summer transfer window opens, according to reports.

The 28-year-old has been largely a rotation player since his £13m move to Anfield from Stoke City in 2018. This season, he has only appeared 10 times for the Reds, scoring once and featuring for just 256 minutes.

Shaqiri has suffered various calf injuries which has hampered his progress in the first team, and Jurgen Klopp acknowledged that he hadn’t had much game time for us, which he apologised to him.

According to Football Insider, there is interest from multiple clubs across Europe that would be interested in signing the 80-cap international, and Sevilla is one of them.

The report adds that Liverpool have put a price tag on his head worth £28m if any suitors want to take him, with CSKA Moscow and Roma also interested in his services.

Will Xherdan Shaqiri leave Liverpool in the summer?

The Merseysiders rejected two loan bids from both Sevilla and Roma back in January as his contributions were deemed important enough for him to stick around until the end of the season. Since the transfer window closed, Shaqiri has not played any football.

If this report is true and this deal goes through, then this will be another accolade for Michael Edwards’ illustrious collection. Getting £28m for a player that has not played 300 minutes of football this season would be a fantastic deal for us.

I thought getting £19m for Dominic Solanke was an achievement in itself. I have the feeling that this could potentially top it.
