John Arne Riise has pledged his future to Liverpool until the end of the 2009.

The Norway international defender John Arne Riise, who only had six months left on his current deal, put pen to paper today. The 25-year-old joined in 2001 from Monaco. He has made 235 appearances for the Reds and has 23 goals. He also has 51 caps for Norway.

Riise was interviewed by NTB and said: ‘This is a fantastic club that I know through and through. I am very happy in English football and look forward to continuing my career in Liverpool.’

Rafael Benitez told the official site: ‘I’m delighted that John has signed a new deal with us. He is a dedicated player, very professional and he has a great mentality. His attitude is first class. He trains well and works hard every day. He has always done a good job for Liverpool, whether at left back or in left midfield, and it’s great news that we can include him in our plans for the coming years.’

The Anfield boss also says he has been a ‘good servant, a good player to have around and a good team-mate.’
