Liverpool have been linked with just about every upcoming talent in Europe this summer, so it comes as no surprise that the Reds have been linked with another young forward this week.

According to Spanish news outlet AS, Jurgen Klopp is eyeing up 20-year-old Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams, to join the ranks of his squad.

The paper claims that Liverpool are weighing up making a move for Williams and would be willing to activate his €50 million release clause.

Now, whilst Williams certainly possesses the versatility and profile of a player Liverpool would make a move for, he is far from the finished product and claims that the Reds would activate his release clause seem to be nonsense.

Williams has made 41 appearances for Bilbao, scoring just three times in all competitions; numbers that don’t warrant a €50 million bid in our eyes.

Whilst he may come of age in future seasons to come, a move to Anfield right now makes no sense at all, especially considering Mohamed Salah’s new contract extension; they both play in the same position.

Even when you take into account Liverpool’s up-and-coming talent in forward positions, the likes of Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho all seem to be better prospects than the Basque attacker.

All in all, we think this rumour needs to be quashed, whether it’s the youngster’s agent trying to drum up attention or simply the Spanish news outlet telling fibs, this one is almost definitely not happening.
