Southampton are ready to rival Premier League clubs Nottingham Forest and Fulham for the signature of Liverpool youngster Neco Williams.

The 21-year-old has been attracting a lot of attention after claims suggested Liverpool were open to selling him for the right fee.

This comes after the Reds signed Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen last month, who is now the heir apparent to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s right-back spot.

According to Football Insider, Southampton are readying a bid for the defender after a move to Nottingham Forest has come to a halt.

Williams had a successful loan spell in the second half of last season at Fulham, where the club gained promotion to the Premier League, a spell that has only increased his transfer value this summer.

The 21-year-old is certainly a bright talent and whilst it’s a shame to see the youngster leave the club, a move away is probably the best option for all parties involved.

Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy are reportedly keen to hold out for a £20 million package for the defender, a fee which Southampton are ready to meet.
