Since joining the club in September, Portuguese starlet Diogo Jota has been a revelation for the club and a world away from the player we saw at Wolves last season.

The 23-year-old joined the Reds for just over £40 million and has since gone on to cause headaches for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans, who have no idea who to start in that famed front-three after his surprise form. Jota has scored 9 goals from his first 14 games for the club and on a few occasions has played a huge part in winning some of those games such as against Atalanta, Sheffield United, and West Ham.

Recently, however, Liverpool legend Steve McManaman has sent a warning to the young forward that despite his fantastic goalscoring form for the Reds, he is still below Roberto Firmino in Klopp’s pecking order.

Was Diogo Jota Liverpool's best signing in the summer?

No

No

“I still think Jurgen Klopp likes the fact he can rely on Firmino, Mane, and Salah at the moment,” – “As much as Jota has been absolutely fantastic…I think he (Jota) would still be the one to drop out at the moment.”.

I can understand where McManaman is coming from surprisingly enough – as he states in The Mirror, Klopp won the Premier League as well as the Champions League with Mané, Firmino, and Salah as his front three, and the trio have done absolute wonders for the Reds over the past few years, scoring 45 goals with 24 assists last season in just the league alone.

There is no doubt of Jota’s talent at the moment and I am sure he is creating a fantastic dilemma for Klopp with such a fantastic array of players to choose from up top – but either way, I think McManaman’s statement is very valid and is something that a lot of Liverpool fans will be thinking themselves.

What do you think Reds, do you agree with Steve McManaman’s statement to Diogo Jota? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
