Team news: Ajax v Liverpool

|

Liverpool travel to Ajax on Wednesday night looking to secure their place in the Champions League knockout stages, with a point being enough to see the Reds into the round of 16. Here is the latest team news ahead of the game:

Returning to the squad:

French defender Ibou Konate and striker Darwin Nunez have been back in training ahead of the game tomorrow [Liverpool TV]. Konate has so far struggled for fitness this year with multiple different injuries keeping out for most of the season so far. Nunez was one of the missing players in Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend due to a muscle tweak suffered against West Ham United. However, the Uruguayan is back in contention for a spot in the starting XI.

Possible return:

Naby Keita has also been spotted back in full training today for the first time this season. However, due to the duration of Keita’s spell on the sidelines suggest it may take a couple weeks to return to full fitness similarly to how Klopp was patient with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Full-back Calvin Ramsay started for the U21’s at the weekend in their 2-1 win over Everton U21’s after recovering from his muscle injury. The youngster could potentially find himself on the bench on Wednesday night.

Definitely out:

Thiago Alcantara was still missing from team training on Tuesday after missing the Nottingham Forest game with an ear infection. The Spaniard is extremely unlikely to even travel with the squad for the game and will instead focus on his return for the Leeds United match at the weekend. Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Arthur Melo will also definitely be out as they continue to recover from their long-term injuries which will keep them out until after the World Cup.
