According to an update courtesy of the Liverpool Echo, the club are being sued over a £15 million deal with an online betting firm to sponsor the team’s training kit – prompting some sarcastic responses from Reds supporters.

The lawsuit, which has started over an alleged £1 million commission which the club apparently haven’t paid, started on Monday and is due to last five days  – with judge Mark Pelling reserving his verdict for an unspecified later date.

Indeed, sponsorship firm Winlink claim they are owed a commission payment following their involvement in introducing club officials to contacts at BetVictor in 2013.

The firm also claim they were heavily involved in negotiating Liverpool’s £5-million-a-year partnership with the betting site between 2016 and 2019.

Now, reacting to the report on social media, some Reds supporters have flocked to jokingly have their say on the matter – with one fan claiming their meagre lawsuit is the reason ‘we couldn’t afford Werner‘.
