Two former Reds look to haunt old club

|

Liverpool’s clash with Rangers in the Champions League will see the return of Ryan Kent and Ben Davies to Anfield, both of which were let go under Jurgen Klopp.

Rangers’ talisman, Ryan Kent, left Merseyside back in 2019 for a fee of around £6.5million after failing to make a single appearance for the club during his four-year spell and instead spending that time out on loan to the likes of Coventry City, Freiburg and Bristol City.

The winger has gone on to set the Scottish Premiership alight with his pace, skill and eye for goal- scoring 20 goals in 90 appearances for the Scottish side.

Defender, Ben Davies, didn’t have much more success on Merseyside either. The Englishman was signed back in January 2021 from Preston North End during the infamous injury crisis which saw Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez all out injured- meaning Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams became a Premier League starting partnership (crazy to think, isn’t it!).

Davies didn’t make a single appearance and you wouldn’t be shamed for even forgetting he was at the club. The center-back then went on loan to Sheffield United in the 2021/22 season and made 23 appearances for the Blades before moving up to Rangers on a permanent deal.

However, the move hasn’t quite worked out the way Davies would’ve liked with the former Red only playing one game so far this season.

Despite this, both players will be coming to Anfield on Tuesday night with a point to prove and perhaps that extra motivation that can make fixtures like these even more intense.
