With us just days away from the January transfer window the Reds have yet again been linked with a move for an abundance of defensive talent across Europe – including this long-standing rumour surrounding Austrian and Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

The 28-year-old had been linked with a move to the Reds back at the beginning of November with his contract running out with Bayern Munich in the summer, meaning January will be a prime time when Alaba can speak to other clubs to arrange a pre-contractual agreement.

Despite many feeling that the Reds won’t be making any moves during the transfer window in the coming days, Sunday World journalist Kevin Palmer has stated that the club will rip up their initial plans for the winter and will dip into the market to strengthen themselves in defence, especially after Joel Matip’s injury on Sunday against West Brom, which has left the club with no fit senior central defenders.

Do you think Alaba would be a good signing?

Yes

Yes

No

No

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein during his Transfer Mailbag, the Reds are among a host of clubs to be holding a strong interest in the Austrian, with Manchester City and Manchester United also interested in a move and that Alaba WILL be joining a new club come 1st July when the summer window is open.

I do think that Alaba would be a great move for the club with his experience and versatility a real eye-catcher for Klopp and the manner in which he likes his players to comply and sacrifice for the greater good of the team.

No matter the situation, I think the club will have to make a signing in defence during January as it would be unfair and unwise to rely on just makeshift centre-back Fabinho, and youngsters Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips for much of the remainder of the season ahead.

What do you think Liverpool fans, should we sign a CB in January? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below…
