With just months left on the final year of his contract, Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has created a big stir over his future and whether he will remain at the club over the next few seasons.

The 30-year-old entered the last year of his contract this season and the Reds were in negotiations over a new deal as a reward for his efforts for the club over recent seasons, helping us to win the Champions League and Premier League.

It had been reported recently that the Reds had offered a new and improved contract for the Dutchman – with Jurgen Klopp and the Reds hopeful that Wijnaldum would commit his future to the club despite heavy interest from Barcelona since the summer and recent links to Italian side Inter Milan.

Does Georginio Wijnaldum deserve more respect?

No

However, it has been reported by Todofichajes via The Mirror, that the club and Wijnaludm have failed to reach an agreement, with Liverpool’s contract offer not reflective of the Dutchman’s importance or efforts over recent years according to the midfielder himself and his representatives.

With the January transfer window in full swing, Wijnaldum can now start to discuss a pre-contractual agreement ahead of the summer with clubs all over Europe, with the Dutchman’s move to Barcelona getting stronger by the day with the Catalan club being the midfielder’s desired destination.

It would be devastating if WIjnaludm were to leave the club after such a positive and important impact and role at the club but with time running out and the interest growing for a move to the Catalan club, then I think it is only a matter of time before we see the Dutchman leave Merseyside.
