Loads of Liverpool fans stuck by Japan international Takumi Minamino after his performance during his side’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday night.

The result meant that the Reds crashed out of the FA Cup for another season, with Willian and Ross Barkley scoring two goals either side of the interval to ensure that Frank Lampard’s team advanced to the quarter-finals. While it was a poor performance from a Liverpool perspective, fans understood that one player in the team needs more time to develop than others.

Following his £7.25m move from RB Salzburg in January, Minamino has started slowly at Anfield and has been taking his time to bed in. After scoring seven goals and providing nine assists for the Swiss side this season (as per TransferMarkt), his early season form has failed to develop since his arrival on Merseyside.

Because of this, supporters did not criticise the 25-year-old and understood what needed to be done to get the Japanese midfielder up to speed. One fan said that he will give him until next season, despite admitting that he has a disappointing night. While another fan suggested that it was a difficult situation for him to be placed in and that he needs more game time.
