Lots of Liverpool fans have been drooling over the prospect of signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Reds are in the hunt for the 32-year-old whose contract is set to expire when the 2019/20 campaign comes to a close.

Back in February, Mertens equalled Gli Azzurri’s all-time top goalscorer having scored 121 goals, level with Marek Hamsik, and also has 73 assists in 311 appearances for his team.

Typically, the centre-forward would not fit Jurgen Klopp’s transfer policy when it comes to incoming players. But after the success of James Milner, there is a possibility that he may have had a change of heart towards the more experienced individuals available on free transfers.

With this in mind, supporters pleaded with the club to chase Mertens and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that capturing the Belgian would be a “massive coup”, while another described him as a “quality player”.
