Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, Reds legend John Aldridge has delivered his verdict over rumoured transfer target Timo Werner – with our former striker going on to suggest that all the noises coming out of his camp indicate he ‘would really like to play for Liverpool’, and is the one who ‘excites me the most’ when it comes to potential targets.

Werner, who has bagged 21 goals in 24 Bundesliga starts this campaign, playing a pivotal role for RB Leipzig during their title challenge before recent events postponed any footballing action, is currently touted to sign for us – with Bild journalist Christian Falk claiming that we have ‘meetings scheduled‘ to negotiate terms.

Speaking in an exclusive with passioneinter.com, Falk recently hinted that manager Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the player – so much so that he already has plans in place to make Werner one of our blockbuster signings.

Should we invest £51 million in signing Timo Werner?

Yes

Yes

No

No

A past report from the Daily Mail states that the Germany international has a release clause of £51 million, and now club legend Aldridge has added fuel to the fire by suggesting that we may have the funds to make this move feasible once we balance the books.

Speaking in the Echo, Aldridge also claimed that out of all the summer signings Liverpool could make, Werner ‘excites him the most‘ – and it’s not hard to see why when analysing his statistics.

According to WhoScored, Werner has averaged the same amount of shots per game as Mohamed Salah, all the while managing to rack up more key passes than the likes of Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson.

Indeed, taking this into account, it’s clear why Aldridge rates the target so highly – and if he really would ‘like to play for Liverpool’, the Reds may have a real star on their hands.
