According to a report from the Athletic, Liverpool gave ‘serious consideration‘ to Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe before opting to appoint eventual fan favourite Jurgen Klopp – prompting many Reds supporters to breathe a sigh of relief over the ‘close shave‘.
Despite Howe keeping Bournemouth in the Premier League ever since their promotion to the top flight in 2015, an arguably impressive feat given their shoe string budget compared to the division’s elite, Reds supporters are still thankful we opted to appoint Klopp instead.
Would Howe have been a good appointment?
Yes
No way
The ex-Borussia Dortmund boss, nearly five years after he was appointed at Anfield, brought home our first league title in 30 years whilst guiding Liverpool to a Champions League triumph the season prior.
Indeed, given our recent achievements, there is little denying that Liverpool fans wouldn’t have it any other way – taking to Twitter and voicing their relief over not appointing Howe.

FSG always have acted like a mid table club. Getting in managers that mid table clubs aspire to. Buying players to sell like mid table clubs. We got lucky that Jurgen Klopp and his wife chose to come here and not Man United.

Good thing they didn’t settle on him. Good coach but a little short on ideas.

We didn’t dodge that bullet (Eddie Howe), we dodge a asteroid. Thank goodness wisdom, sanity and sense prevailed.
Liked Klopp at Dortmund & was ecstatic when we signed. Had no doubt that he was a quality coach who would turn the club around
