19-year-old Tyler Morton impressed last season, in nine appearances for the Reds in all competitions and now the midfielder is ready to master a new position heading into the 2022/2023 campaign.

Morton looks set to profit from the fact that Liverpool have failed to sign a new midfielder this summer, after missing out on Aurélien Tchouaméni earlier in the transfer window.

When Jurgen Klopp sat down with the written press before the team jetted off on their preseason tour of Asia, the German tactician suggested that Morton has a new position in his squad.

“By the way, Tyler Morton in training, incredible! He plays as a No. 8 now,” Klopp said

“We don’t force him to play as a controlling No. 6 in a Premier League game. He’s training as an eight, and it’s like wow, how good is that?”

Morton impressed in various outings last season, including a coming-of-age performance in the UEFA Champions League against AC Milan.

It will be interesting to see how Morton performs in his new number 8 position next season, perhaps Klopp sees him as the long-term successor to Jordan Henderson in Liverpool’s engine room.
