Jurgen Klopp has provided injury updates ahead of the club’s Premier League season opener against Fulham this weekend.

The Red’s finished their final preseason fixture with a 3-0 defeat to Strasbourg; Liverpool fielded an academy-filled starting XI, however, Ibrahim Konate suffered an injury during the game.

The defender was substituted at half-time after picking up a knock and whilst there was an initial concern, it seems the injury isn’t as bad as fans first thought.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Jurgen Klopp provided an update on Konate’s situation and fellow first-team squad members Naby Keita and Curtis Jones.

“Naby is ill and Curtis felt a little bit and we couldn’t take any risks. All of a sudden the team was really young and we play [against] a really strong Strasbourg side.”

“We don’t know exactly yet on Ibou, but it doesn’t look too concerning, so I hope we caught it in the right moment.”

Klopp was asked whether he thought Keita and Jones would be available for the season opener against Fulham this Saturday.

“Naby is ill, so no. Curtis, we have to see. [There] was no impact or whatever, so that always makes it a bit, ‘My god, what could it be?'”

“We had no time; he felt it today and he wanted to play desperately, but then the medical department said no and that we needed to make further tests. We will do that tomorrow and then we will know more.”

Liverpool head into the 2022/2023 Premier League campaign on a high, after winning the FA Community Sheild against rivals Manchester City in a convincing 3-1 win.
