Liverpool address midfield problems in deadline day move for Brazil international

|

Liverpool acted on deadline day to secure the services of Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for €37.5million.

Jordan Henderson’s injury on Wednesday evening likely prompted Liverpool to move for the Brazilian, however, fans have been crying out for midfield reinforcements all summer.

Arthur will cost the Reds  €4.5m for the season with the club having an option to buy the midfielder for €37.5million should he perform well. [The Guardian].

Comparisons have been drawn between Arthur and fan favourite Thiago Alcantara who is currently out of action with a long-term injury.

Arthur won the Copa Libertadores with Gremio back in 2017 and made the switch to La Liga shortly after to join Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Brazilian was then involved in a swap deal in 2020 which saw the midfielder move to Juventus and Miralem Pjanic to Barcelona.

The 26-year-old adds the safety and security the squad has been desperately needing in the engine room and as the team moves into a crowded fixture schedule he’ll need to adapt quickly.

The Reds not splashing the cash on a midfielder indicates that they’ll make a big move for Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham next summer.

Arthur will join his fellow compatriots  Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino at Anfield; hopefully, this will help him settle into life on Merseyside easily.
