The Liverpool hierarchy highlighted the midfield of the squad as an area to improve during this summer’s transfer window, however, the Reds have made signings elsewhere.

Now, Jurgen Klopp’s team is rumoured to have ended their business for the summer after securing the services of Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay.

Nevertheless, according to The Irish Daily Star newspaper (via Paisley Gates), Liverpool are considering a loan move for former midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The report suggests Liverpool have come to terms with the fact they will be unable to sign their number one midfield target Jude Bellingham this summer, so are looking at cheaper alternatives on a one-year contract basis.

Wijnaldum returning to Anfield would certainly be one of the surprise moves of the summer, although, it’s well known that Jurgen Klopp holds the midfielder in very high regard.

Liverpool had the option to extend the 30-year-olds contract at the end of last season, however, the club chose not to do so and instead the Dutch international joined French giants PSG on a free transfer.

The Dutchman’s time in Paris hasn’t been great and rumours have been circulating for a while now of the midfielder’s desire to leave Ligue 1 and return to the Premier League.

Wijnaldum scored three goals and assisted three times in 38 appearances for PSG this campaign; he was also voted “Ligue 1 flop of the season” after failing to impress during his debut season in France.
