It’s the prestigious award that crowns the best players in football under the age of 21 and winning the award is usually a sign of a great career to come.

Liverpool duo Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho remain in the hunt for the 2022 Golden Boy award after the shortlist was cut from 100 talents to 60.

Barcelona’s Pedri took the award in 2021, fighting off stiff competition from Borussia Dortmund midfielder and England international Jude Bellingham.

The winner of the 2022 award will be declared in Turin later this year with 20 candidates being knocked off the list until the winner is crowned.

Elliott seems to have a better chance than Carvalho at coming away with the coveted prize and his solid showing against Crystal Palace on Monday will do the youngster no harm in his bid.

Previous winners of the award include; Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Kylian Mbappe, Raheem Sterling, Erling Haaland and Paul Pogba.

Notable names on this year’s list who Elliott and Carvalho will battle it out with are; Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, Ansu Fati, Gavi and rumoured Liverpool target Yeremy Pino.

Stiff competition for the Liverpool duo to say the least, but if both have a successful stint in Jurgen Klopp’s first team, winning the award is certainly a possibility.
