Liverpool’s Konate features as France progress in Qatar

|

Liverpool defender, Ibou Konate, featured in France’s 2-1 victory against Denmark which sees them progress into the knockout stages of the World Cup.

The 23-year-old replaced Raphael Varane in the 75th minute, with the score sat at 1-1 at the time of the change.

Two goals from Kylian Mbappe secured the three points for Didier Deschamps’ side, despite Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen equalising in the second half.

Konate was unfortunate not to start from the beginning following his fantastic performance against Australia in the first matchday of the World Cup, but Deschamps opted to go with the more experienced option of Manchester United’s Raphael Varane.

France face Tunisia next Wednesday in the 3pm kick off, with a chance to top the group and get a more favorable draw at stakes in that one.

Should France top their group and England manage to do the same by defeating Wales next Tuesday, there is a pretty high chance that the two could face each other in the Quarter Finals should both sides reach that point.

This would see Konate face his teammates such as Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold in a high-quality game.

Liverpool players such as Alisson, Fabinho and Darwin Nunez all are yet to qualify but also yet to play their matchday two fixtures, which see Brazil face Switzerland and Uruguay face Portugal in two highly anticipated games.
