Man City v Liverpool: Starting XI Prediction

|

Liverpool travel to the Etihad to face Manchester City in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup, here is how we think the Reds will lineup against the Premier League champions.

Goalkeeper- Kelleher

Liverpool will be looking to retain their League Cup title after beating Chelsea in the final last year, thanks to the heroics of young keeper, Caoimhin Kelleher.

The Irishman has become a nailed on starter in Jurgen Klopp’s sides in the cup competitions and has very rarely performed badly at all.

Defence- Trent, Matip, Gomez, Tsimikas

After only making one appearance for England at the World Cup, Trent Alexander-Arnold should start at right back.

Joel Matip and Joe Gomez will start at centre back as Virgil Van Dijk and Ibou Konate aren’t quite ready following their runs in the World Cup.

It has become well-known that Kostas Tsimikas usually starts in the cup games and he deserves it for how well he played when filling in for Robertson when he was injured.

The Scotsman should be rested for the Premier League game against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Midfield- Milner, Thiago, Carvalho

Former City man, James Milner, will play at the base of the midfield with Thiago Alcantara and Fabio Carvalho ahead of him.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho continue in their return from the World Cup, whilst Harvey Elliott and Naby Keita continue to build up fitness.

Forwards- Salah, Firmino, Nunez

Klopp doesn’t have many options going forward due to the injuries to Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.

There is a potential for one of the youngsters such as Ben Doak, Bobby Clark or Frauendorf to slot into the front three but due to the opposition we’re against, I personally can’t see it happening.

Bench: Adrian, Ramsay, Robertson, Phillips, Bajcetic, Keita, Clark, Doak, Oxlade-Chamberlain.
