The Reds cruised to victory on Sunday night with a dominant and important 3-0 victory over Leicester City upon their return to Premier League action.

Just after the start of the second half, however, Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita was forced off after a suspected hamstring injury, being replaced by Neco Williams with James Milner then moving into midfield.

The injury to the Guinean international adds further woes to Liverpool’s squad this season, with it being the 25-year-old’s ninth injury since joining the club from RB Leipzig in 2018 for £54 million.

Liverpool have suffered greatly this season from injuries, with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk the most notable with the pair being absent for most of the season – as well as having Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain currently unavailable for selection with injuries.

Recent news surrounding Thiago recently emerged too, with the Spaniard’s return date still unknown after his injury sustained in October’s Merseyside derby draw with Everton – after a red-card challenge from Richarlison sidelined the midfielder until further notice.

I find it incredible the number of injuries this Reds side has already sustained this season and I blame the current schedule for the matter – with games jammed into tight schedules to fit the bill of the TV broadcasters with no consideration for the fitness and welfare of players and clubs who are expected to perform in multiple competitions in countries all over Europe just days apart – something that manager Jurgen Klopp has been talking about recently too.

Keita’s injury leaves the German with slim pickings ahead of today’s game against Atalanta, but there is still plenty of hope and trust in the current squad at his disposal.
