Liverpool are expected to complete the signing of Birmingham winger Jermaine Pennant within the next couple of days.
The Reds initial bid of £3.5 million was rejected by Birmingham who are believed to have been holding out for £8 million.
However, a compromise has been reached and a deal believed to be worth £6 million has been agreed. The terms of the deal will see Birmingham receive £4 million up front and the balance based on appearances.
The player is reportedly due at Anfield tomorrow to agree personal terms and complete a medical.
If everything goes according to plan, he will then fly out to link up with his new team mates at the Reds Swiss training camp and possibly make his first appearance in Saturday’s friendly against Kaiserslautern in Liechtenstein.
Rafa has been a long time searching for a genuine right winger and Pennant will certainly fit the bill. Once this deal is finalised the focus will switch to the striking department and a bid for Dirk Kuyt is believed to be on the cards.
