Speaking to BBC Sport, Kop TV host Alex Gildea-Trott has tipped Liverpool to sign Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara as a ‘dead cert‘ to move – claiming the 29-year-old is like a ‘hybrid between Xabi Alonso and Philippe Coutinho’.
Thiago, who has been heavily linked with a transfer to Anfield over the last few weeks, refused to sign a contract extension at the Allianz Arena recently – putting his future at the club into question.
Since then, the Reds have been touted to move for the Spain international through numerous reports – with news outlet Sport claiming recently that a deal was ‘very close‘ to happening.
Now, speaking to BBC Sport surrounding the rumours, journalist and TV host Gildea-Trott is convinced that a swoop could be on the cards – claiming it is certainly the most likely out of fellow supposed targets Kalidou Koulibaly and Emiliano Buendia.
According to WhoScored, Thiago has averaged an impressive 90.5% pass accuracy over 20 Bundesliga appearances this campaign – all while completing more dribbles per 90 in midfield than star Reds attackers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Currently valued at around €35 million (£31.8 million), it’s little wonder why Liverpool are reportedly interested in a swoop considering his stats – with Jurgen Klopp’s side apparently lacking that world class midfielder to keep us at the highest footballing level.
Comparing him to former Kop heroes Alonso and Coutinho, Gildea-Trott hasn’t shied away from explaining what a good move it would be for us to sign the ex-Barcelona ace – describing him as a ‘baller‘.
Whether or not we do end up signing Thiago remains to be seen, but he could possess all the accolades required to be successful at Anfield.
