Two former Reds set to start against Liverpool

|

Liverpool’s clash with Nottingham Forest is certainly not short of narratives, with the two massive clubs meeting for the first time in the Premier League since a 2-2 draw in April 1999.

The Reds go into the clash on the back of three consecutive wins against Rangers, Manchester City and West Ham United. Scoring nine and conceding just one in the process.

Today’s fixture could also prove a telling day for Neco Williams and Taiwo Awoniyi as they look to prove their doubters wrong as they face their former side, Liverpool.

Williams had represented the Merseyside club since he was a kid and despite numerous attempts, could never seem to nail down a place consistently. However, this was mainly down to the brilliance of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The full-back undoubtedly has talent, being a mainstay in the Wales national team’s defence but will still have his work cut out against the likes of Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

In contrast, Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, never played a competitive game for Liverpool due to work permit issues but definitely showed his talents during his loan spells to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.

The Nigerian striker hasn’t quite hit his high standards just yet with just two goals in ten games, with one of them being the winner in Forest’s only win in the league this season in a 1-0 victory over West Ham United in August.

Both players will certainly want to get both their own and their team’s seasons back on track and what better way for them to do it than against Liverpool.

Hopefully this won’t be the case as Jurgen Klopp’s men look to win again to maintain their pressure on the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, who face each other on Saturday evening.
