Former Red Taiwo Awoniyi haunts Liverpool

|

Liverpool fell victim to a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, as the Reds’ search for their first away win in the Premier League continues.

It was former Liverpool striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, who scored the winner at the City Ground in the 55th minute after bundling the ball home after a deflection off the woodwork.

Darwin Nunez and Thiago Alcantara were missing from the squad due to injury, whilst full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was only fit enough to make the bench.

Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and James Milner came into the starting XI and it has got to be said that Jurgen Klopp’s side lacked any sort of rhythm or purpose behind their play.

A frustrating day at the office for Klopp with his side only able to muster up chances from set pieces with centre back, Virgil Van Dijk, being a prominent aerial threat throughout the game but couldn’t quite find the back of the net.

Defensively, Liverpool didn’t do much wrong with Forest taking pretty much their only chance of the game but their hard work did eventually pay off.

Another former Red, Neco Williams, also put in a solid performance contributing to a much needed three points for his side.

Liverpool face Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday as they look to put this poor performance behind them.

The Reds currently sit 7th in the Premier League and are still yet to record their first away win of the season.
