Harvey Elliott screamer enough to send Liverpool through

A first-half screamer by Harvey Elliott was enough to send Liverpool through to the fourth round of the FA Cup, with a 1-0 away victory over Wolves.

Jurgen Klopp’s men kept their first clean sheet in eight games in all competitions, with a fantastic defensive performance throughout.

The match started in bizzare fashion with a power cut taking place less than a minute after kick-off, descending the Molynuex into darkness.

After the restart, the match was quite cagey except a few occasions where Wolves winger Adama Traore exploiting the space behind Kostas Tsimikas, but the end product kept letting him down.

Following a long battle for possession, it was 19-year-old Harvey Elliott who produced a moment of magic to hammer the ball past Wolves keeper Jose Sa from thirty yards out to give Liverpool the lead.

The Reds had a few more chances before half time but the likes of Cody Gakpo and Naby Keita couldn’t find the back of the net.

In the second half, the home side started brightly but again couldn’t create any clear chances despite having the majority of the ball.

An hour in, both sides made changes with Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, Nathaniel Phillips, Ben Doak and Fabinho all coming on for Liverpool and Diego Costa, Matheus Nunes and Daniel Podence all being used for Wolves.

Wolves improved following the substitutions but again, Liverpool’s defenders remained solid to see out the victory.

Curtis Jones came close to sealing the victory but saw his effort drag just wide of the post.

Liverpool will now face Brighton next weekend, looking to put things straight following their 3-0 defeat to the Seagulls in the Premier League.

Before that though, the Reds will face Chelsea in the 12:30pm kick off on Saturday at Anfield as they look to make one last push for European football next season.
