Points shared as Chelsea hold Liverpool at Anfield

Liverpool and Chelsea held each other to a 0-0 draw in the Premier League’s early kick off at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides had chances to clinch all three points but neither could make full use of their opportunities, leaving the two sides nine points away from Newcastle United in fourth place.

Chelsea started the brighter out of the two sides, with Kai Havertz pouncing on a loose ball in the six-yard box after Thiago Silva’s shot cannoned off the post.

Graham Potter’s side thought they had took the lead just three minutes into the game, but a VAR check confirmed that Havertz was just offside.

Liverpool began to respond after about twenty minutes, with Andy Robertson sprinting corner flag to corner flag looking to make something happen for his side.

The best chance of the half came when Naby Keita found Mohamed Salah with a fantastic outside of the foot pass, before the Egyptian opened up his body and looked to curl the ball into the far top corner.

In the second half, Cody Gakpo came close to finding the bottom corner when he swivelled on the edge of the box whilst up the other end, debutant Mykhailo Mudryk sipped past James Milner and Joe Gomez before smashing the ball wide.

The final ten minutes were unfortunately spoiled by constant time wasting from the visitors and Liverpool couldn’t quite find the rhythm they needed to score a winner.

Jurgen Klopp will now look to prepare his team for the FA Cup Fourth Round as his side get a shot at revenge as they travel to face Brighton on the South Coast.
