Liverpool are in the midst of an injury crisis and two key defenders, Joel Matip and Ibrahim Konate are on the sidelines for the club.

Last night Jurgen Klopp started Nat Phillips in a Premier League match, highlighting the problems the club are having at the moment.

Now, it seems the injuries the squad are facing will halt another central defender’s move away from Anfield; Sepp van den Berg was close to joining Blackburn Rovers.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are keen to hold on to the defender until later in the season, due to the squads current injury crisis.

Van den Berg enjoyed a fruitful time at Championship club Preston North End last season and was expected to make a move back to the English second tier.

It’s not only Blackburn who have been interested in the youngster’s signature either with Sheffield United, Burnley and Watford all eyeing up the 20-year-old to come into their defences.

It remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp will eventually let the defender leave the club but with the club’s current problems he may be needed to fill in when needed.
